Goa Beaches

Goa beaches are calling you Goa is the smallest state of India which until 1961 was a Portuguese colony. It is surrounded by Indian state Maharastra to the north, Karnataka is to the east and south, and to the west the Arabian Sea. Its area is nearly 3700 sq.km and has a population of 1.4 million. Nearly 1.5 million tourists come to Goa every year out of which 0.4 million are from abroad and the rest are from other part of India. Panaji is the state capital of Goa which is a clean, calm and peaceful city with all modern amenities that a tourist requires. For this Panaji is considered as the holiday capital of South Asia. Here the environment pollution is at the lowest level. As Goa was under Portuguese rule for 451 years here Portuguese and Indian culture merged into each other to give a new blend. Hill, river and sea these three element compose the landscape of Goa. Along the coastline facing the Arabian Sea it has nearly forty sun kissed golden beaches which are very much popular among the domestic and foreign travelers visiting Goa. Each of these beaches has its own individuality. Every day these beaches are refreshed by the tides twice, every year these beaches get new look by the monsoons, and round the year the tourists come here to enjoy holidays and refresh themselves. Some of the beaches are full of crowd and much commercialized. Some of the beaches though small and remote are calm and quite what the hippies were attracted for. If you walk along the cost line from north to south, you will find beach after beaches, only some times disturbed by the land heads and outlet of rivers. It is some time difficult to separate one beach from another which are named after the village near the beach. When you are in the beach remember the history how a fraction of the hippies from the Europe arrived here by land and how pretty peaceful the life was at these beaches which made them decide to stay in goa for months after month. Today much of the beaches of Goa have been changed by commercialization, which might shock the old hippies visiting Goa but still there are some beaches which have very few crowd and untouched by the commercialization. If you are a loner then visit these beaches, you can stay in the beach huts under the palm tree which are called hipi hotel, before going there collect your clothes and ornaments from Anjuna flea market to get a hippi look. Goa is famous for its beaches, cuisines, temples, churches, forts and carnivals. Goa is consistently attracting the holiday tourist, pilgrims of Catholic and Hindu shrines and its economy is tourism oriented.

Palolem Beach

Palolem is the south most crescent shape, white sandy beach of South Goa. The swaying palms and the blue hue of the sea between two rocky headlands of the Western Ghat range offers a picturesque view which is much expected to the travelers. This beach has moderate crowds and water activities.

Colva beach

Colva Beach is the longest beach of South Goa which stretches 20 km along the Arabian Sea. It is 40 km away from Panaji and 6 km west of business city Margao. This beach is the proud of South Goa. Though commercialization has increased the crowd much in the beach front but part of its long territory still seems and remains uncrowded which attracts the people seeking solitude.

Calangute Beach

Calangute is the second longest beach of Goa. It is 16 km away from the Goa’s capital Panaji. During peak season Calangute takes a Euro look because of huge foreign tourist in hotel, bar, market or in the beach. It happens only because of the huge commercialization of the Calangute Beach. Indian people make fun that young guys can discover themselves in Europe if they go to Calangute at this time. Under Colorful beach umbrellas in rows the lazing beauty of the travelers give the young Indians a glimpse of the real European beach atmosphere.

Baga Beach

 Baga Beach is north to the famous Calangute Beach and it is so close that someone may consider it as the northern part of the Calangute Beach. In fact tourist stays in Calangute city and from there they drive to Baga and Candolim. Baga Beach is famous for it's unspoiled natural beauty and The Baga River flowing one side of the beach. If you want to get relief from the crowd of the Calangute Beach, then visit Baga Beach.

Anjuna beach

Anjuna Beach is Goa's hottest and most celebrated beach. The rave culture of Anjuna has made it most popular among the western tourist. Goa trans music, the acid house parties, the red hued shore, the white sandy beach with rocky terrain connecting the beach and sea, the sawing palm groves all these have made Anjuna Beach a world class holiday destination for the tourist from all over the world. The beach was discovered by the hippies some time in the 60’s.

Miramar

Miramar Beach

Miramar is the urban beach and is the closest to the Panaji city. The soft white sandy beach with palm fringe on the back side is the number one attraction of Panaji. This beach is also known as Gasper Diaz. The estuary of the Mandovi River is a fish eye view from here. Though there is no water sports facility but it is the beach where one can swim safely following the guidelines for swimming. The mobile beach shacks selling hot chats are one of the great attractions of this beach. There are few good hotels close the beach where privacy is provided for sun bath.

Dona Paula

Dona Paula Bay

Dona Paula is 7 km away from Goan capital Panaji and it is better to call it as view point of the estuaries of the river Mandovi and the Zuari then to tell as sea beach. The picturescue view of the Murmagao Harbour and the Dona Paula bay is really beautiful to remember for ever. The view point is on a rocky small head land in the water dividing the estuaries of the Zuari and the Mandovi and this view point is connected with the main land by bridge.
