Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep is a union territory of India consisting of thirty six beautiful tranquil coral reef islands surrounded by crystal clear blue waters of the Arabian Sea. Most of the Lakshadweep islands are uninhibited and full of mangrove forest and coconut grove.

You will find only six islands where people live and have daily activities. There are many beautiful white sandy beaches in Lakshadweep which are backed by coral reefs and coconut palms. But tourist can visit only few of them as permitted by authority. In fact, tourist can only travel Lakshadweep beaches as part of the travel packages arranged by tourism department. Traveling Lakshadweep independently is very difficult. Tourists looking for solitude should visit the beaches of Lakshadweep again and again to rejuvenate themselves.

Fishing is the main income generating source of the local community who has migrated here from Kerala. In order to conserve the nature here the authority has introduced some strict guide lines which all tourists must obey. Tourists are required to collect a visit pass from Kochi before they start for Lakshadweep. Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kadmat, Agatti, Bangaram and Minicoy can be reached by ships run by various tour operators. Other uninhibited islands can be reached by fishing boats with the local fishermen.
